Healthy Banana Bread Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

Breakfast is usually the one meal most people struggle with the most when making the transition to healthier foods.

Most people are used to eating processed cereals, pop tarts, refined breads and boxed pancakes/waffles for breakfast so when the time comes for a lifestyle change, deciding what to eat for breakfast can be a struggle for some.

Even after six years of healthy eating, I still have mornings where I struggle with deciding what to eat! I guess it's because I wake up so hungry and I want food RIGHT AWAY and I can't think clearly haha.

That is why I enjoy this breakfast smoothie so much - because it comes together in just a few minutes - and that is music to my ears for a busy mama like myself.

It also tastes like banana bread - and who doesn't love banana bread? By the way, if you love banana bread make sure to check out this cassava flour banana bread recipe I posted a while back - this bread is vegan, paleo, gluten free and perfect for breakfast as well!

But baking banana bread takes a little bit more time and effort. So for those busy hurried days, opt for this smoothie insted!

This breakfast smoothie is:

  • healthy and nutritious
  • sooo easy to make (throw everything in the blender and DONE)
  • tastes so delicious - kinda like your favorite banana bread but in smoothie form.

By the way, I also wrote an entire post on healthy vegan breakfast foods where I highlight THIRTY-FIVE delicious breakfast ideas to get you started on your clean eating journey so if you haven't checked that post out yet, make sure you do by clicking here.

What you need to make this banana bread breakfast smoothie:

  • 1 medium sized ripe banana
  • almond milk - I love making my own almond milk using a blender and a nut milk bag. To learn more about how to make your own homemade milk, check out this step-by-step post I wrote about that.
  • chia seeds - The chia seeds add protein to the smoothie but also help give it a nice full creamy texture.
  • almond butter - Also homemade. You can learn how to make almond butter at home in this post I wrote.
  • medjool date - for natural sweetness
  • walnuts - for those delicious fats
  • cinnamon and vanilla - we're using these as flavor enhancers
  • ice - make sure to add the ice LAST after you blend everything up, then blend it one last time to blend the ice. By adding the ice last you'll ensure your smoothie stays nice and cold.

How to make this easy banana bread breakfast smoothie:

It does not get any easier than this.

All you have to do is throw all of your ingredients in the blender, hit the blend button, and DONE!

Remember add the ice LAST to ensure your smoothie stays nice and cold.

That's it.

You'll have a delicious healthy and nutritious breakfast in your hands in no time!

Healthy Banana Bread Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

Cups with banana bread smoothie inside on a table

A delicious breakfast smoothie that tastes like banana bread. Vegan and paleo.

  • Author: Jen
  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cook Time: 1 minute
  • Total Time: 6 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegan

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium ripe banana
  • 1.5 cups almond milk (or any non-dairy milk)
  • 1/4 cup walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 soft medjool date
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 cup ice (add last – read directions)

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients, except ice, to a blender and blend until smooth. Add ice last, and blend until ice has broken down fully. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • I like adding the ice last after everything has blended well because the blender warms up the drink during the blending process and will cause the ice to melt and then the smoothie won’t be cold.
